CARLTON HIGHDALE HORSEHOUSE SE 08 SW 6/64 Farmhouse attached to Manor Farm GV II

Farmhouse. Early C18 with later alterations. Courted rubble, stone slate roof. 2 storeys with rear outshut, 5 first-floor windows. Quoins to right. In fourth bays, 8-panel door in ashlar quoined surround with hollow chamfer, "S" and above it a plaque, with decorative frame, inscribed A B . Inserted 1855 C20 stable door in second bay and C20 casement window in ground floor of first bay. 4-pane sash windows with deep lintels on ground-floor of third and fifth bays. First floor: two C20 casement windows, three 4-pane sashes. Corniced ashlar stacks between third and fourth bays and at right end. Rear: double-chamfered cross mullion-and-transom window and blocked surround of first-floor 2-light mullion window. Interior: in ground-floor room to right, chamfered ashlar fireplace, and to its right, cupboard with fielded- panel doors. Stone dogleg staircase in outshut in fourth bay.
