Description

North Field Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse, with later alterations and extensions. It is constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings, and has a 20th-century pantile roof. The building follows a direct-entry plan and has two storeys, with a rear outshut and originally four first-floor windows. The older section of the farmhouse comprises the left two bays, distinguished by quoins. The right two bays represent a later addition, dating from the late 18th or early 19th century, and originally functioned as a separate cottage; these bays feature neater quoins. A central 20th-century part-glazed door is set within an ashlar surround with quoins. Window openings have ashlar sills and deep lintels with draughted margins. On the ground floor, to the left of the door, there are 16-pane sash windows. To the right of the door are four-pane sash windows, with the window in the third bay originally serving as a doorway. The first floor has side-sliding sash windows. A shaped kneeler is present, along with ashlar coping on the right side. A brick stack is situated between the first and second bays, while an ashlar stack is located at the right end of the building.
