Description

Hillside is a house dating from the mid-to-late 18th century, with later additions. It is constructed of coursed sandstone with a stone slate roof. The house has two storeys and three bays. The windows have ashlar surrounds with keystones. They are sash windows with glazing bars, with one window, formerly a doorway, in the centre of the ground floor having chamfered and interrupted jambs. The building has shaped kneelers, ashlar coping, and rendered end stacks. The right return features a partly-glazed door within an ashlar surround on bases, incorporating inverted shields on the lintel and a large slab cornice supported on corbels. A 20th-century drawing room and conservatory are located to the left, and a 20th-century rear nursery wing, which is not of special interest, has been added.
