Lytheside: East Farmhouse & cart shed adjoining

House. Dated 1736, on decorative panel over door, with initials R. & M.F. (Richard & Mary Fothergill). Cart shed to right under same roof; dated 1790, on keystone, with initials J. & I.R. (John & Isabel Robinson). Later alterations. Snecked rubble with quoins. Graduated slate roof. 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-bay house: Central part-glazed door under bracketed canopy with sash to either side and 3 above. Single-bay cart-shed has pier with segmental cart arch springing to left and semicircular head to passageway springing to right; sash above. Corniced stone end chimneys to house. Chamfered jambs, heads, and sills from original windows survive with later casements inserted.
