Description

The planned farm buildings to the north of the farmhouse date from the early 19th century. They are constructed of random rubble with tooled ashlar dressings and feature roofs made of Lakeland and Welsh slate. The buildings are arranged in a symmetrical E-plan, creating two yards.

In the right-hand yard, there are single-storey, six-bay cartsheds with segmental arches on both ends, which extend towards the back of the yard where they serve as stables for working horses. At the rear, there are large two-storey shelter sheds and a granary, although these are now obscured by a 20th-century shed in front. The fourth side of the yard is defined by square gatepiers with pyramidal caps and flanking walls approximately 8 feet high; to the left is the forge. In the centre of this yard stands a small two-storey turnip house featuring a segmental arch on the ground floor and a clock above.

The left-hand yard has similar gatepiers and a wall on the south side, with a former bothy attached to the forge. To the left is a range of stables for riding horses, and to the right is the rear of the cartsheds, most of which have been replaced by a 20th-century shed. In the centre of this yard is a turnip house with a dovecote above. The buildings have gabled roofs with flat copings and stone ridge pieces. The forge and bothy are topped with small square brick chimneys, while the stables feature two louvred ventilators with pyramidal roofs. There is also a Victorian wall letter box in the gable of the cartshed to the right.

The 20th-century sheds are not of special interest.
