Description
The Collingwood Arms is a hotel built in the early 19th century, featuring ashlar stonework and a Welsh slate roof. The building has two storeys and consists of seven bays. It includes a stone porch with a cornice band and a frieze that is inscribed in relief letters saying "POST HORSES." The entrance has a six-panel inner door and a fanlight with intersecting glazing bars. There is a ground floor sill band, and the windows are sash style, although the intermediate glazing bars have been removed. The roof is gabled with flat coping and kneelers, and there are four brick ridge stacks.
Inside, the hotel has a staircase with stick balusters, slender turned newels, and a ramped handrail. There are several six-panel doors set in panelled reveals, along with panelled shutters.
In 1825, Mackenzie referred to the establishment as "a comfortable and excellent inn."
