Description
West Learmouth Cottages is a terrace of cottages dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The cottages are constructed of random rubble with stone dressings and feature a Welsh slate roof. Originally, there were 13 cottages, but they have been rearranged to form 9. The terrace consists of four groups of two cottages that step down the hill. The first cottage on the left, which is slightly higher, has four bays with sash windows and was the steward's cottage. Cottages two through nine have boarded doors with three-pane overlights and 19th-century eight- and twelve-pane casements. They feature gabled roofs with boarded brick ridge and end stacks, as well as outshuts at the rear. This group of cottages is notably complete and represents an early example of farm labourers' housing.
