Description

Stones Mill is a derelict windpump from the mid-19th century, featuring a tarred brick tower and the remains of a weather-boarded cap frame. The circular tower stands four storeys high and has two window openings on both the ground and first floors, as well as two windows on the second floor and one on the cap floor, all with segmental brick arches. The cap frame includes sheers, sheer overlays, a head stock, a weatherbeam, and remnants of a tail beam. It also has truck wheels, centering wheels, a curb, track, and racks. There are remains of a fanstage with spur gear winding, which is rare for windpumps. The windpump is equipped with a cast iron windshaft that has a timber clamp arm brake wheel, along with remains of a brake collar and arm, and a cast iron scoopwheel shaft.
