Description

Dawdys Farmhouse is an 18th-century farmhouse, incorporating elements of a 17th-century timber-framed structure. It is constructed of red brick, colourwashed, and has a thatched roof. The original layout was a three-cell plan, with a later ā€˜L’ shaped extension to the west and a single-storey lean-to addition to the east. The north-facing front has four windows, with a centrally positioned 19th-century six-panel door set within an open, pedimented timber doorcase featuring a moulded timber architrave. The windows are casements with single glazing bars. Parapet gables are present, with a platband running along the level of the first-floor ceilings. An axial brick stack is located centrally. The western extension dates to the mid-18th century, featuring a brick parapet gable and a stack, as well as brick tumbling. The interior is largely 20th century. Brick fireplaces with timber bressumers are present, along with chamfered bridging joists and common joists, service doors, and steps leading to a cellar. A tie beam with arch braces is visible at first floor level. The roof was rebuilt in 1984. The eastern extensions are not considered to be of particular architectural interest.
