Description

Halvergate House, built around 1840, is a former farmhouse constructed of gault brick and red brick, topped with a slate roof. The building is two storeys high and features a double pile design with a two-storey outshut to the north at the east end. The south-facing facade has three bays, with a central six-panel door that includes a semi-circular fanlight. The doorcase is made of timber and has panelled reveals, engaged fluted columns, and an open pediment adorned with modillions. The outer windows are fitted with margin lights, while the sash windows have glazing bars, stone sills, and flat gauged brick arches. The south side has a moulded timber fascia, and corbel brick eaves are found elsewhere. There are four central chimney stacks topped with moulded gault brick pots, and the roof is hipped.

The garden features gates and a blind arcade of semi-circular brick arches made of gault brick, which project symmetrically to the east and west. Inside, there is a staircase with carved tread ends, square balusters, and a wreathed hardwood handrail. The interior also includes panelled shutters and doors, moulded architraves, and a moulded plaster cornice in the front rooms.
