Description
Langley No. 3 is a derelict windpump dating from the mid-19th century. It features a brick tower that tapers over four storeys and has remains of a weatherboarded cap. There are door openings on the north and south sides of the ground floor, a window opening on the first floor, and two window openings on the cap floor, all with semi-circular brick arches. The cap frame includes sheers, a tail beam, a sprattle beam, a head stock, and a weather beam. The windpump retains a complete set of truck wheels and centering wheels, along with worm and worm hangers. It has a cast iron windshaft, a brake collar, a wooden upright shaft with a cast iron wallower, crown wheels, and a pit wheel. There is also a horizontal drive shaft leading to an exterior scoop wheel. The casting was done by W. England, a millwright from Yarmouth, and is dated 1895. This windpump forms a group with the Hardley windpump.
