Description

SU 4724 TWYFORD QUEEN STREET (south side)

11/16 Embessy & Corner- ways (formerly listed as Embessy Cottage and GV II Cornerways)

House, now pair of cottages. C15 and C16 refronted C18. Timber-frame core encased in brick, old plain tile roof. 3 bay, single storey and attic building with early C19 2 storey, 2 bay wing added to front at right end. C18 4-panel door in solid frame to left of centre under flat head. C19 2 and 3-light casements, with 2-light flat-roofed dormer on roof in each bay. Stack on ridge to left of door. Wing has C20 door near junction and C20 2- light casement with on 1st floor C18 small 3-light headed casement. Gable end has scantling timbers and leaning gable stack, and stack below ridge on junction of roofs. Inside remains of upper cruck frame with most of crucks exposed and smoke blackened roof timbers.
