Description

Cornerways Embessy is a house that has been converted into a pair of cottages. It dates back to the 15th and 16th centuries but was refronted in the 18th century. The building has a timber-frame core that is encased in brick, topped with an old plain tile roof. It features three bays and is a single storey with an attic. An early 19th-century two-storey, two-bay wing has been added to the front at the right end.

The main entrance is on the left of center and consists of an 18th-century four-panel door set in a solid frame, which is topped by a flat head. The windows are 19th-century casements, with two and three lights, and there are two-light flat-roofed dormers in each bay of the roof. A stack is located on the ridge to the left of the door. The wing has a 20th-century door near the junction and a 20th-century two-light casement window, while the first floor features a small 18th-century three-light headed casement.

The gable end displays scantling timbers and a leaning gable stack, with a stack positioned below the ridge at the junction of the roofs. Inside, there are remnants of an upper cruck frame, with most of the crucks exposed and smoke-blackened roof timbers.
