SK 16 NW PARISH OF HARTINGTON MIDDLE QUARTER BUXTON ROAD 5/70 (West Side) Mile Post 34 metres north-west of Middle Street Farm at NGR SK 136 653 II

Mile post. Early C19. Cast iron. Triangular section base, with moulded front angle.. curving upwards to form flat back with segmental head. North side inscribed: 'ASHBOURNE/13 MILES' and 'J HAYWOOD JNR/PHOENIX WORKS/DERBY'. South side inscribed: 'BUXTON/7 MILES' and 'J HAYWOOD JNR/PHOENIX WORKS/DERBY'. Front inscribed: 'LONDON' in large letters in arc. Below: '152 MILES/DERBY/26 MILES'. Below again, on horizontal section, raised area inscribed 'HARTINGTON PARISH'.
