The north side is inscribed with "ASHBOURNE/13 MILES" and "J HAYWOOD JNR/PHOENIX WORKS/DERBY". The south side features the inscriptions "BUXTON/7 MILES" and "J HAYWOOD JNR/PHOENIX WORKS/DERBY". The front displays the word "LONDON" in large letters arranged in an arc, with "152 MILES/DERBY/26 MILES" below it. Further down, on a horizontal section, there is a raised area inscribed with "HARTINGTON PARISH".
