Description
Old Hall Cottages is a terrace of four cottages built around the 1840s and late 19th century. The cottages are constructed from coursed limestone with gritstone dressings and quoins, topped with a plain tile roof that is hipped to the west. The building features three stone ridge stacks, one stone gable end stack, and one stone side wall stack.
The cottages are two storeys high with a six-window front, consisting of one three-bay cottage and three single-bay cottages. The easternmost cottage is a later addition, distinguished by its punched stone dressings and quoins. The westernmost cottage has a quoined doorcase, and there is a glazing bar sash window to the east, with similar windows above. The central cottage of the three remaining features a flush, quoined doorcase with a 20th-century glazed and panelled door, sheltered by a bracketed stone hood. On either side, there are glazing bar sashes with slightly chamfered surrounds, and a continuous Tudor style dripmould runs over the door and windows.
To the west, the cottage has flush jambs, a lintel, and a bracketed stone hood over a 20th-century door with a rectangular fanlight. There is a similar glazing bar sash window to the central cottage, also with a Tudor style dripmould above. The fourth cottage mirrors this design but is reversed, with a dripmould only over the window. The cottages are included in the listing for their group value.
