Description
The Quaker Chapel, originally a cottage, was converted around 1711 into a Friends Meeting House and later enlarged in the mid 19th century. It now serves as a Sunday school. The building is constructed of coursed limestone with limestone and gritstone dressings, topped with a plain tile and stone slate roof, and features a brick gable end stack. It is two storeys tall with single storey additions.
The west side has a plank door with a large lintel, while the east side features a recessed and chamfered 2-light mullion window with original iron bars and leaded lights. Next to it is a tall glazing bar sash window set in a limestone surround, complete with original shutter hinges. Above the mullioned window, there is a 2-light flush mullion window with 20th-century leaded lights.
To the east, there is a single storey stone slate addition with no openings. At the rear, a stone slate addition opens to the south and is supported by cast iron columns. Inside, the building includes a gallery on the west and south sides.
