Description

The Bull's Head Public House is a public house located in Monyash, originally built in 1690 with an addition from the 18th century and alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, featuring gritstone dressings and quoins on the earlier section, while the 18th-century part has limestone dressings and quoins. It has concrete tile roofs and stone coped gables with moulded kneelers on the west side. There are three stone gable end stacks and one stone ridge stack.

The building is part two storeys and part three storeys high, with a total of four bays. On the extreme west side, there is a blocked four-centred arched door with incised spandrels and a quoin surround, along with a lintel inscribed '1619 OE'. To the east, there is a large 19th-century three-light mullion window and a 19th-century plank door with a large lintel and dripmould. Further east, there is a 20th-century window in a flush gritstone surround and a doorcase with plain jambs and a lintel, topped by a flat stone hood on brackets. Above the blocked door to the west is a small blocked recessed and chamfered opening. To the east, there are similar windows arranged like those below. The three-storey 18th-century extension features two large chamfered windows with hoods, two smaller similar windows above, and two additional similar windows at the eaves, all of which are 20th-century.

On the west wall, there is a two-light recessed and chamfered mullion window, which was formerly a four-light window. Above it are two two-light recessed and chamfered mullion windows, one of which was formerly three-light. Inside, the building has some stud partitioning, a large bracketed fireplace, and some ovolo moulded beams. The Bull's Head was formerly used as a courthouse for lead mining disputes.
