Description
Mill Cottage and Ford Cottage are a pair of houses built in the early 19th century. They are constructed from deeply-coursed, dressed sandstone and feature a Welsh slate roof. The houses are arranged as a handed two-storey pair with a two-window range. The doorways are set away from the center and have vertically-panelled doors framed in ashlar surrounds. The windows are 8/8 horizontally-sliding sashes with projecting stone sills and plain ashlar surrounds. The first-floor windows are of the same type, with flush sills positioned directly beneath the eaves. There is a corniced ashlar end stack on the left side. The left return has an angled rear-left corner with an ashlar addition that includes a miniature 6/6 sash window on the first floor. The interior has not been inspected. These houses likely date from shortly after the road was realigned around 1810, as they face the newly straightened section of Buxton Road.
