Description

This milestone, located 280 meters east of Glebe House, dates from the late 18th century. It is a white-washed sandstone block with a triangular section and a shaped top. The west face features black-painted inscriptions indicating distances: "To Chapel 4M, Sheffield 26M, Chesterfield 27M." The east face displays "To Macclesfield 7M" along with an Ordnance Survey benchmark. This milestone is part of a set along the Macclesfield-Whaley Bridge turnpike, which was established in 1770, with other milestones found in Hurdsfield, Rainow, and Lyme Handley.
