Description

The cart shed located to the south-east of Forest Lodge farmhouse dates from 1848, as indicated on the door lintel panel. It is constructed from lightly-tooled coursed squared sandstone and is currently roofless, although the end copings remain intact. The building is two storeys high and consists of three bays. On the right side, there are two cart arches featuring chamfered, shouldered lintels and boarded doors. The left side includes a stable door and a blocked feeding chute, indicating that this end was originally a pigsty. Additionally, a small lean-to stable has been added at the east end.

This cart shed is included for its group value as part of a series of buildings that were all constructed by Leonard Dale in the mid-19th century, surrounding a beautifully-paved sloping courtyard.
