Description

Gallery Cottage and No 2 are two houses dating from the early 18th century, with some alterations. They are built of coursed large sandstone that is nearly ashlar in quality, featuring finely-tooled window surrounds. The roof is pantiled with brick stacks, and there is incised render on the dormer. The buildings are two storeys high and consist of three irregular bays.

In the centre, there are paired chamfered doorways; the left one is blocked, while the right doorway leads to No 2 and has a 6-panel door. Flanking the doorways are two-light Yorkshire sash windows, with the right window having small panes, set in slightly lengthened openings that were once mullioned windows.

Gallery Cottage is accessed from an off-centre first-floor glazed door, which is reached by wooden steps that rise from the top of a flight of stone steps on the north wall of the Laurel Inn, along with a wooden bridge across the street. To the left of the door are paired modern two-light casements, and to the right is a small sash window. Further right, there is a 16-pane fixed light with a bottom right-hand opening panel, and a 4-pane fixed light at the extreme right, which may have once been a fire window. The left side features a large modern dormer. The roof has a high pitch with end chimneys, one of which has been rebuilt.
