Description
The Old Drapery is a house and shop located on Fylindales New Road in Robin Hood's Bay, likely built in the mid-19th century, with a ground floor that dates back to the 18th century. The front of the building features incised rendered walls, while the right side has herringbone-tooled sandstone on the ground floor and red brick above. The roof is pantiled, with a stone ridge and gable copings, and the gable end faces the road.
The structure has two storeys, an attic, and a basement, with one wide bay. The right side has a half-glazed shop door, and the left side features a Victorian-style shop window, both set in a corniced wood frame. There is a wood canted oriel with fixed lights above and a small light in the gable peak. The right return is blank, possibly rebuilt after the demolition of an adjacent building. The left return has a boarded basement door, a ground floor three-light shop window with some glazing bars, and a first-floor three-light shop window with some glazing bars, although the original sash has lost its intermediate bars. A stackless chimney pot is located at the far end of the roof ridge. The building is included for its group value.
