Description
Nos 24 and 26 on Towngate are two houses dating from the early 18th century. They are built from thinly-coursed rubble and have a stone slate roof. The buildings are two storeys high and feature two first-floor windows. The corners of the houses have quoins, and there are two near-central doorways that were inserted in the 19th century.
The windows are double-chamfered and include a 4-light window to the left, which has had its central mullion removed and is situated under a hoodmould. To the right is another 4-light window, also with the central mullion removed, and the right-hand doorway has replaced what would have been a fifth light. Further to the right, there is a 2-light window with its mullion removed, both of these windows are under a single hoodmould. On the first floor, there is a 4-light window with two mullions removed, a 5-light window with one mullion removed, and a later single light window to the right. Recent casements have been added.
The gable copings are chamfered and sit on moulded kneelers, and there are two gable stacks with strings. The interior has not been inspected.
