Description

Shipley Fields Hall is a large house dating to the early 19th century, with a later 19th-century addition (number 5). It is constructed of finely-dressed stone with ashlar quoins and dressings, and has a Welsh slate roof. The facade is symmetrical and features five bays. Rusticated quoins are present along with a plinth. A central Ionic portico, with a full entablature and blocking course, now has part-glazing. The front door is a good six-panel design, set within a moulded architrave. The tall sash windows are set within moulded raised surrounds; the central window on the front breaks forward slightly. A first-floor string course runs along the building and is topped by a deep moulded eaves cornice. A two-bay addition, matching the original style, extends to the left and features a hipped roof. Gable copings are visible to the right, along with an ashlar gable stack (which has been lowered). A central round-arched stair window is located at the rear of the house. The three-bay left return elevation has an open-pedimented central bay that projects forward, topped by a tall, broad stone stack with string and cornice. Later additions exist to the left. The interior has not been inspected, but panelled window shutters are visible.
