Description
Olde Cottage is a cottage dating from the late 17th century, which was greatly enlarged in the early 20th century. It features a timber frame with plastered infill and an old plain tile roof, with the enlargement done in matching materials. The cottage is 1½ storeys high and has two bays, along with a matching link bay at the bottom of a T-shaped, two-storey Vernacular Revival block.
The front of the building facing the road has the older part on the right-hand side, which includes a plank door located to the left of the end bay, sheltered by a yew hedge 'porch'. There are two-light casement windows on either side of the door, and a similar window is located above in an eyebrow dormer that has been raised into a hood. The link bay features a plank door beneath a hipped hood supported by posts on the left side, and a four-light casement window with a similar window above in an eyebrow dormer. Adjacent to this is a narrow bay that forms the two-storey stem of the T, which has a two-light casement window on the ground floor and a four-light casement window spanning the entire first floor.
The roof above has a bellcast hip with a gablet at the top. To the left is the projecting gabled end of the top of the T, which includes a four-light casement window on the ground floor. The first floor jetties out and features a four-light oriel window beneath the overhanging gable with raised eaves. There are stacks located at the right-hand end and at the junction of the ridges of the taller part of the building.
