Description
The School House and Verderer's Office is a late 19th-century building that originally served as a school and attached house, and is now a cottage and Verderer's Hall. It is constructed of brick, featuring some yellow brick bands and moulded brick dressings, with a patent pantile roof. The building is 1½ storeys high and consists of a 4-bay hall facing the road, with a 3-bay wing of the house at one end and a single-storey service range running parallel to the hall.
The road elevation includes a right-hand gabled projecting porch with a pointed doorway. To the left of the porch, there is a rectangular-section brick bellcote with a gabled roof topped by a finial. The other bays feature 3-light casement windows with yellow brick sill bands, above which is a yellow dentilled cornice. On the ridge between the left-hand and right-hand bays, there are gabled ventilators. The end walls display two yellow brick bands and a three-light mullion and transomed window set under a gauged arch with a moulded yellow brick label. The building is included for its group value.
