Description

Christ Church is a church built in 1864 by W. Butterfield. It features red brick with blue brick diaperwork and stone bands, along with a plain tile roof. The layout includes a chancel with two gabled projections on the north side and one on the south, and a long nave with a northwest porch and a west bellcote, reflecting a later Early English style.

The east end showcases diaper work on a high plinth, which has a heavy stone offset that acts as a sill for a five-stepped trefoiled lancet window. There are three blue brick bands on either side of the head quatrefoil, and diaperwork in the gable is complemented by raised dentilled eaves. The low-down diaperwork on both northern projections includes one with a shouldered-head lancet and the other with a pointed two-trefoiled-light window, while the south projection is similar.

The nave has heavy stone offsets to the plinth on both sides, serving as sills for the trefoiled lancets. A stone band runs across at the springing level. There is a lancet in the east bay and one in the west of the center bay, with two in the east of the center bay flanked by buttresses. The northwest porch features low sloping buttresses at the corners and stone kneelers on the gable wall, with a pointed doorway beneath a label. The gable displays diaperwork, and the diamond shapes created by it resemble dove nests. A three-light trefoiled window is located at the west, and the gabled west bellcote has some decorative elements.

The interior reflects Butterfield's restrained style, with a roof featuring thin scissor bracing to the principals, which have open cusp work above.
