Description
The Thatched Cottage is a cottage dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century and significant enlargements in the 20th century. It features a timber-frame construction with brick infill and a thatched roof, with the later additions made using matching materials. The cottage is 1½ storeys high and originally consisted of three bays, with two additional bays added to one end and a two-storey, three-bay wing added to the rear of the other end.
The front of the older section, which faces the road, has the older part on the right-hand side, featuring a brick plinth below the baseplate that runs across the entire width. Each bay contains a 20th-century two-light leaded diamond pane casement window, with another window replacing doors between the right-hand bays. Above the original three bays, there is a two or three-light similar 20th-century casement window in an eyebrow dormer. Above the right-hand side of the added bays, there is a 20th-century four-light casement window in another eyebrow dormer. There are stacks at either end, with the right-hand side featuring an 18th-century external stack, and a ridge stack located over the older part between the second and third bays from the right.
