Description

The House on the Green is a cottage that dates back to the mid-17th century, with later additions and alterations. It was originally divided but has now been returned to a single dwelling. The structure is timber framed and sits on a rubblestone plinth with rendered infill, topped by a plain tile roof. The building is one storey and has an attic, appearing to consist of two framed bays. The framing features square panels, with three panels extending from the cill to the wall-plate, and collar and tie beam end trusses. The right truss has projecting double-purlin ends and V-struts from the collar. The rear has painted brick cladding or replacement materials.

On the front, there are two 19th-century casement windows to the left of a 20th-century plank door, which has a small rectangular overlight above it. To the right, there are two more casements, positioned where a former doorway was located. The house features two prominent gabled eaves dormers, which are timber framed beneath render and have three-light 20th-century casements. There is an integral end stack to the left with a 19th-century brown brick shaft, along with a subsidiary red brick stack in the roof slope to the right. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
