Description
Edgton Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the mid-17th century, with extensions added in the late 18th or early 19th century, along with later modifications. The building is timber framed with painted brick infill set on a high rubblestone plinth. The original 17th-century section has an asbestos sheet and plain tile roof, while the later addition features regularly coursed and uncoursed limestone rubble, with the upper storey of the front rebuilt in late 19th-century red brick and a machine tile roof.
The farmhouse has an L-shaped plan, with the 17th-century range positioned at right angles to the rear on the left side. The original section has two storeys, while the addition has two storeys and an attic, complete with a dentilled eaves cornice. The framing consists of square panels, with three panels extending from the cill to the wall-plate. On the right side, there are 20th-century casements on both the ground and first floors, accompanied by a 20th-century gabled stone porch. The 18th or 19th-century addition has a two-window front, featuring late 19th-century segmental-headed casements and matching gabled half-dormers. There is an integral end stack to the right with a red brick shaft, as well as a tall integral stack with a red brick shaft located at the rear junction with the 17th-century range. The interior was not accessible during the last survey in September 1986, but it is likely to contain features of interest.
