Description

Rockabank is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century, with extensions made in the mid-19th century and further alterations. It features a timber frame with painted brick infill on a later painted rubblestone plinth, a roughly coursed left gable end, and a red brick addition to the right that is painted black and white to mimic a timber frame. The roof is covered with graded slate. The original layout consists of two cells with an integral end stack on the left, which was extended to the right by a single bay in the mid-19th century. The building has one storey and an attic. The framing consists of square panels, with two panels extending from the raised cill to the wall-plate. The late 19th-century windows include two casements on the ground floor, with gabled eaves dormers directly above. Access is provided through a 20th-century timber lean-to porch on the left, along with a subsidiary segmental-headed doorway in the 19th-century addition to the right. The integral end stack on the left, where it meets the 19th-century rubblestone cowhouse (not included in the listing), has a 19th-century red brick chimney. The interior was not inspected during the re-survey in October 1985, but it was noted to have a chamfered spine beam in the left ground-floor room.
