Description
The Ridge Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse located in Chirbury. It underwent significant changes in the late 18th century when the eaves were raised and the building was remodeled. In the mid-19th century, it was extended, with further additions and alterations made later. The structure features a timber frame with painted brick infill and painted rubblestone on the gable ends, along with 19th-century additions. The roof is covered with graded slate and the building has two storeys.
The framing consists of square and rectangular panels, with two panels from the cill to the original wall-plate and two light square panels above. There are two late 19th-century casements below the eaves, one on each side of a central 19th-century gabled brick porch. A 19th-century casement is located to the right on the ground floor, with a 20th-century French window to the left. An integral reddish-brown brick stack is situated on the right gable end, while a 20th-century end stack on the left has replaced a large axial stack. At the rear, there is a stone and brick outshut.
Inside, the right ground-floor room features chamfered cross beams, and square panels are exposed on the back wall, with one panel showing visible lath and plaster infill. The original roof trusses were plastered over during a resurvey in October 1985. A mid-19th-century two-storey range at right angles to the left is noted but is not considered of special architectural interest.
