Description
Kinton Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the late 15th century or early 16th century, with extensions added in the late 16th century or early 17th century, along with later modifications. The building features a roughcast timber frame set on an uncoursed limestone rubble plinth and has a plain tile roof. It is designed in a T-plan layout, with a hall range that appears to consist of three and a half framed bays, and a two-bay cross-wing that projects to the right and was originally jettied at the front. The hall range is one storey and an attic, while the cross-wing is two storeys high.
The windows are of mid-20th century design, with one casement window on each floor of the cross-wing and one casement window on either side of a 20th-century pedimented door leading to the hall range. Above the door, there is a contemporary gabled eaves dormer to the right. The main entrance is through a 20th-century gabled timber porch that is attached to a lean-to structure at the angle between the hall range and the cross-wing. A prominent red brick ridge stack is located to the right of the hall range, featuring four attached and rebated shafts with diagonal projections and moulded capping.
At the rear, there is a timber-framed range in the angle between the hall range and the cross-wing, which likely houses the staircase and has a weatherboarded gable. To the left, there is a mid-19th century rubblestone range, with an early 19th century outshut at the rear that was formerly used as a dairy and is constructed of a mix of timber frame and stone. Beneath the cross-wing, there is a cellar with natural rock walls. The interior was not inspected during the re-survey in November 1985, but it is reported to have oak-panelled rooms.
