Description
No. 24 is a cottage located in Chirbury, dating from the mid-17th century, with later additions and alterations. The building is timber framed with plaster and painted brick infill, topped by a slate roof featuring internal red brick end stacks. It has one storey and an attic, and appears to consist of three or four framed bays. The framing includes square and rectangular panels, with three panels extending from the cill to the wall-plate, long straight tension braces at the rear, and V-struts from the collars. The front has been partly rebuilt in brick and is painted black and white to imitate traditional timber framing.
On the left side, there is a late 20th-century casement window, while a late 19th-century casement window is on the right, both situated beside a 20th-century gabled wooden porch that has a gabled eaves dormer directly above. At the rear, there is a timber framed outshut on the right, a 19th-century rubblestone lean-to on the left, and a 19th-century single-storey stone addition with a stable door on the right. The interior was not inspected during the last survey in October 1985, but it was noted to have chamfered ceiling beams and joists.
