Description
Walkmill is a disused mill located in Chirbury, dated 1802 for John Davis, with later additions and alterations. The building is constructed from uncoursed limestone rubble and has a slate roof. It features a 4-bay mill house that is three storeys high, with a four-window front showcasing late 19th-century flush-framed casements with segmental stone heads. There is a boarded door in the second bay from the left and a late 20th-century half-glazed door in the right bay. An integral stack with a red brick shaft is located at the junction with the range to the rear. A datestone reading "ID (John Davis)/1802" is positioned between the centre windows on the second floor. To the left, there is a late 19th-century single-storey lean-to.
The mill itself is a full-height and full-width range at the rear, featuring segmental-headed windows on the first floor and a central stable door on the ground floor, with a late 20th-century casement window to the left. There are also two late 20th-century flat-roofed eaves dormers. A segmental-headed doorway connects the mill to the house. The interior of the house has not been inspected but is noted to include chamfered spine beams and heavy joists in the front ground-floor rooms, along with a central oak staircase. All equipment from the mill has been removed.
