Description
Hough Green Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse located on Mobberley Road in Ashley, Cheshire. The building is constructed of plum-coloured English garden wall bond brick with a 20th-century cement tile roof. It has two storeys and an attic, and originally comprised three cells. The front elevation has four bays. The ground floor of the outer bays features 19th-century bay windows. The first-floor windows are of three lights with ovolo moulded surrounds and mullions, some of which have been replaced. A gabled porch dates to the 19th century. There is a brick chimney stack to the left-hand side with two flues. 19th-century outshuts have been added to the rear and left-hand side.
The interior retains flagged floors on the ground floor. The old kitchen, now a parlour, features a large open hearth with stop-chamfered bressumer with run-out stops. A smaller fireplace is found in the old parlour, now the kitchen. An original wooden baulk tread staircase, a closed string dog-leg staircase, leads to the attic. The roof is characterised by wind-braced tie-beams. The attic contains remnants of wattle and daub construction and a clay floor in one room.
