Description
Little Weston Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid-17th century, with extensions or partial rebuilding from the mid-19th century and later additions and alterations. It is timber framed with painted brick infill and rendered on the front and right gable end, set on a roughcast rubblestone plinth, and has a slate roof. The original layout was likely a three-unit baffle-entry type, with the left bay rebuilt in the mid-19th century. The building has two storeys. The framing is exposed at the rear, featuring square panels, three from the cill to the wall-plate, with a long straight tension brace. The right gable end shows visible cross members and single-purlin ends. The 19th-century casements include three directly below the eaves, with three on the ground floor, and a segmental-headed window to the left of a segmental-headed boarded door leading to the 19th-century part, along with two in the timber-framed section that extend into the plinth. A prominent rendered ridge stack is located immediately to the right of the entrance, and there is an external red brick end stack to the right with a roughcast lean-to bread oven projection. The interior was not accessible during the last survey in September 1986, but it was noted to have parallel chamfered spine beams in the left ground-floor room, indicating that this part of the house is a rebuilding rather than a 19th-century addition.
