Description
Criftins Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, which was refronted in the late 18th century and has had some minor later additions and alterations. The building is timber framed with red brick infill, and the front and gable ends are clad or rebuilt in brick. It has a slate roof and features a three-unit baffle-entry plan. The farmhouse is two storeys tall with a gable-lit attic. The front is divided into three sections, with straight joints, and has three late 19th-century casement windows. The first-floor windows are positioned directly below the eaves, while the ground-floor windows on the left and right have segmental heads. To the left of the centre window, there is a 20th-century gabled brick porch, and a red brick stack is located immediately behind the ridge above. There is also a subsidiary internal end stack in front of the ridge to the right. The framing on the back wall consists of square panels, with three panels extending from the cill to the wall-plate, supported by short straight tension braces. Although the interior could not be inspected during the resurvey in March 1987, it was noted to have timber framed cross walls and chamfered ceiling beams on the ground floor.
