Description

Wackley Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the late 17th century, possibly incorporating parts of an earlier building. It was extended in the mid-18th century with later additions and alterations. The structure is made of red brick and has a mainly graded slate roof with boxed eaves. Originally, it had a 3-bay central baffle-entry plan, which was extended by one bay to the left in the 18th century, and a 2-storey gabled brick range was added to the rear in the early 19th century, creating the current T-plan layout.

The farmhouse has two storeys and a gable-lit attic, featuring dentilled floor bands on the front and right gable end, and plain floor bands on the left gable end. There are three mid-19th century casement windows directly below the eaves, with two additional windows to the left and one to the far right of a mid-19th century gabled brick porch located to the right of the centre. All windows have wooden lintels and purple brick sills. The porch includes a 4-panel door and a semi-circular fanlight, with an infilled segmental-headed doorway between the porch and the right window. Above the infilled doorway is a small oval-shaped window directly below the eaves, and there is a ridge stack in two sections with moulded capping that formerly formed the baffle entry. An integral end stack is located to the left. The rear features an infilled wooden mullioned and transomed window on the right. The rear range has a dentilled eaves cornice, an integral lateral stack to the centre on the right, and an open lean-to adjoining it, also on the right.

The interior was not accessible during the resurvey in January 1987, but it was noted that the left ground-floor room has two chamfered spine beams and heavy joists.
