Description
Burlton Grange Farmhouse is a farmhouse built around 1700, with extensions made between 1830 and 1840, along with later additions and alterations. The building is constructed of red brick, featuring a stuccoed plinth on the 19th-century section, and has plain tile roofs. The 19th-century part of the house is designed in an L-shape, with an earlier range at the rear on the left side. It stands two storeys high with deep eaves and has a three-window front, showcasing 16-paned glazing bar sashes with plain wedge lintels.
The central entrance is framed by a Doric porch that has a moulded entablature above a six-panel door, which has glazed top panels and a rectangular barred overlight. There is a small brick ridge stack to the left of the centre and another stack on the back wall where it meets the long two-storey range at the rear. This rear range features a mix of 19th-century and 20th-century casements and has an external end stack.
The earlier range from around 1700 has two three-light mid-19th-century casements on each floor; the ground floor windows have segmental heads, while the first-floor windows are positioned directly below the raised eaves, which have a dentilled cornice. There is a red brick ridge stack at the centre and an external end stack to the left.
Inside, the 1700 section includes chamfered ceiling beams and a straight-flight oak staircase located centrally. The 19th-century part features a staircase from around 1830, which has a curved handrail and stick balusters. The main ground-floor rooms also have panelled window shutters and decorative friezes with carvings on the ceiling beams.
