Description
Woodgate is a house that has been converted into a farmhouse. It dates from the late 18th century and has had additions and alterations made in the mid to late 19th century. The building is constructed of red brick and features a plain tile roof with ornamental cresting. The original design is L-shaped, with two mid-19th century gabled additions at the rear and a lower block added to the right in the late 19th century.
The house is two storeys high with an attic that is lit by gables. It has a painted moulded stone eaves cornice and plain corner pilasters. The front has six windows, with two on the right that are separated from the others by a broad pilaster strip. The windows are glazing bar sashes with moulded frames and gauged heads. There are also two late 19th century hip-roofed eaves dormers that have decorative ceramic finials.
The entrance is located in the third bay from the left and features a pedimented brick porch from around 1830, which covers a six-panel door (with the upper panels now glazed) and a blind semi-circular fanlight, along with an 18th-century doorcase. There are external end stacks for both the main and rear ranges, with the rear stack having been rebuilt in late 19th century brick.
At the rear, there is a two-storey bow to the left that has a 16-paned glazing bar sash on each floor and a conical roof. To the right, there is a late 19th century addition that is attached to an 18th-century red brick wall with sandstone coping, which ramps down in three sections.
Inside, the staircase, dating from around 1830, is located to the right of the entrance. It features carved oval panels on the decorated closed string, stick balusters, and a curved handrail.
