Description
This is a group of chest and table tombs located to the south of the south aisle of the Church of St. Michael in Loppington. The tombs date from the late 18th century to around 1830 and are made of sandstone. They are rectangular in shape, with the chest tombs featuring moulded plinths and capping, while the table tombs have plain top ledgers supported by squat rectangular pillars. Several of the chest tombs include fluted pilasters and decorated corner spandrels. The most notable memorial is dedicated to Henry Betty, who died in 1811; it is a chest tomb with tapering sides and a plain urn finial. A sundial, which is a Scheduled Ancient Monument, is situated in the center of the group but is not included in this listing.
