Description
The sundial base located in the grounds of St Michael's Church dates back to 1695 and was commissioned by churchwardens Arthur Hatchet and Roger Kynaston. It is made of dressed sandstone and features a bronze plate. The sundial has a circular baluster design with a capital and base, and it swells at the lower body. It stands 1.34 meters high and is supported by a circular step approximately 1.25 meters in diameter. The top is capped by a bevelled, square abacus that holds a modern plate. The original plate, which is kept in the church, features a decorated gnomon and dial with two sets of twelve-hour numbers in Roman numerals, inscribed with "Arthur Hatchet and Roger Kynaston, Church Wardens 1695." This sundial base has group value with the Church of St Michael in Loppington.
