Description

Holly Cottage, located at the south end of the village of Loppington, is a cottage dating from the 16th century with later additions and alterations. It features a cruck frame with later small square panels and painted brick infill, topped by a machine tile roof. The building has a single-cell plan and a later brick outshut, standing one storey high with a gable-lit attic. The framing includes two square panels above a high brick plinth and true cruck trusses with straight collars that are exposed at the gable ends. The front has one 20th-century casement window, and there is a boarded door to the far left, with an integral red brick end stack directly above. The apexes of the crucks have been destroyed. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is noted to have a heavy chamfered spine beam and joists in the ground-floor room. A 20th-century flat-roofed extension to the left is not of special architectural interest.
