Description
This cottage, dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century, has undergone alterations and additions in the late 19th and late 20th centuries. It features a timber frame, partly constructed using cruck techniques, with sections of painted brick nogging, rendered areas with painted imitation framing, and parts rebuilt in painted brick. The roof is covered with plain tiles. The framing consists of large square panels, with two extending from the sole plate to the wall plate, and short straight corner braces. The building has a baffle-entry plan with two framed bays and is one storey high with an attic. It includes two large gabled eaves dormers, each with two-light wooden casements, and a central brick ridge stack. The front has two windows, also with two-light wooden casements featuring weatherings, and a roughly central boarded door beneath a gabled porch. The right-hand gable end displays a collar and tie-beam truss with queen struts and V-struts. Inside, there are chamfered spine beams and a large open fireplace with a chamfered lintel. The foot of a cruck truss is visible in the left-hand end wall.
