Description

The Triangle is a cottage dating from the late 17th century, with alterations and additions from the 18th and 19th centuries. It features a timber frame with red brick nogging and is partly rebuilt in red brick and uncoursed red, grey, and yellow sandstone rubble, showing signs of previous limewashing. The roof is made of corrugated iron. The building has a two-cell plan and is one storey with an attic.

The framing consists of light, rectangular panels. There is a timber-framed gabled eaves dormer, which is off-centre to the right and has a two-light wooden casement. The cottage has an integral brick end stack to the right and a mid- to late 19th-century stack in front of the ridge, off-centre to the left, featuring an octagonal brick shaft. On the left side, there is a small segmental-headed wooden casement off-centre to the left and a two-light wooden-framed metal casement off-centre to the right, along with a boarded door off-centre to the right.

To the right, there is a 19th-century one-storey lean-to brick addition. The left-hand gable end has a two-light wooden-framed metal attic casement and a two-light ground-floor casement, which was formerly a doorway, as indicated by brick patching beneath. The gable features an exposed truss with a collar and struts. At the rear, there is likely a late 18th-century timber-framed and sandstone and brick one-storey gabled wing. The cottage is prominently situated along the roadside in the hamlet of Edgebolton.
