Description
A pair of cottages, likely originating in the 17th century, with subsequent additions and alterations in the early 18th, late 18th, and 19th centuries. The cottages are constructed of red Flemish bond brick, topped with a plain tile roof. They are two storeys high, with a single-storey section incorporating an attic.
The front elevation features four ground floor windows with cambered heads and two-light casements, positioned to the right of the centre. Above these are three flat-headed two-light casements, the right bay being blank. A projecting band of brick two bricks deep separates the ground and first floors, complemented by a dentilled band at the eaves. A further bay extends to the right, continuing the eaves band but not the band between floors. To the left is the single-storey wing with an attic, featuring a gabled porch door on the right and a gabled dormer window to the attic. A single-storey, 20th-century wing projects to the far left. A single-bay extension, dating to the late 18th century, occupies the extreme right, with a two-light casement to the first floor and a gabled porch with a small casement to its right at ground floor level. A blocked opening is visible in the walling below the first-floor window.
The front features a gabled wing on the left with one ground floor window, followed by a single bay with a shallow pyramidal roof. This bay has a blocked door with a projecting keystone, and a two-light casement above. The rear elevation mirrors this design with a similar single bay, two-light casements to ground and first floors on the far left, and a gabled porch with random window placements.
The cottages relate to Moreton Mill and a bridge located 50 metres to the east.
