Description

Inglenook is a house dating from the mid-17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid to late 19th century. It features a timber frame with plastered infill panels, some of which have been rebuilt and enlarged in rendered masonry and red brick, topped with plain tile roofs. The framing consists of small square panels, three from the sole plate to the wall plate. The building has a baffle-entry plan with one long and one short framed bay, and a flush gabled cross wing to the right of one framed bay. It is one storey with an attic.

The cross wing gable to the right is underbuilt and formerly jettied, featuring a moulded bressumer, close studding, and a 20th-century three-light wooden casement. To the left, there are two gabled eaves dormers with two-light wooden casements. The central brick ridge stack has shafting. The front of the house has three windows, with 20th-century one- and two-light wooden casements. The central 18th-century door has six raised and fielded panels and is sheltered by a 19th-century bracketed gabled porch.

Inside, there are chamfered and stopped beams, two large open fireplaces with chamfered and stopped lintels, and 17th-century winder stairs located at the rear of the stack. A 17th-century panelled door leads to a cupboard adjacent to the stack, featuring a reeded frieze and strap hinges, along with other boarded doors that also have strap hinges. There is probably a 19th-century one-storey addition to the right, which includes a 20th-century two-light wooden casement at the front, a dentil-brick eaves cornice, and an external brick end stack. A late 19th-century wing is present at the rear, also one storey with an attic.
