Description

The Groves is an early 19th-century house located on Wytheford Road in Shawbury. It is constructed of red brick with a slate roof and has three storeys. The house features a plinth and a dentil brick cornice at the eaves. Integral brick end stacks are present. The front elevation has three bays with 16-pane glazing bar sashes and painted stone cills and lintels. A two-step approach leads to a probable 20th-century central door, which has six raised and fielded panels (the top two being glazed), a radial fanlight, and a doorcase consisting of pilaster strips with moulded capitals, an impost band, and large shaped brackets supporting a moulded cornice. A two-bay return front is present on the left-hand side, and a single-storey wing extends from the rear, also with an integral brick end stack. A 20th-century addition is located at the rear as well. Panelled window shutters were noted within the house, although the interior was not inspected.
