Description
Two cottages, numbers 18 and 19, date from the mid- to late 18th century, with a further addition of a two-bay cottage to the right in the early 19th century. The left-hand portion is constructed of Flemish bond brick on a flint base, while the right-hand portion features Flemish bond brick with flared headers. Both have old tile roofs and brick stacks. The cottages were originally two units, later extended to form a four-unit plan. They are arranged as a one-storey and attic building with a four-window front. The left cottage has carved brackets supporting a flat hood over a late 19th-century four-panelled door, set within a beaded architrave. Segmental arches frame horizontal sliding sashes to either side of the door. Similar arches frame 20th-century casement windows on the right-hand side. Four late 19th- or early 20th-century gabled dormers light the attic space. A late 20th-century porch has been added to the right gable wall. The roof is gabled, with a large external stack on the left side and two ridge stacks, one of which replaced the original right-end stack before the early 19th-century extension. The interior has not been inspected.
