Description

Forge Cottage, The Old Forge, and The Old Post Office are three cottages located in Stonor, dating from the 17th century. The cottages feature first-floor rectangular timber framing with brick infill above a ground floor made of 18th-century brick. They have a gabled roof covered with old tiles and brick stacks at the ridge and rear left. The original layout is unclear, but the buildings are one storey with an attic and have a four-window range. The doors are from the 20th century, including double doors leading to a garage, and there are 20th-century casements. The cottages also have four gabled dormers. To the rear left, there is a one-bay range from the 17th century, constructed of timber framing with brick infill and an old tile gabled roof. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.

Adjacent to the cottages is a mid-19th-century house known as The Old Post Office, which is two storeys high and has a two-window range. It is built of red brick in Flemish bond with flared headers, while the rear wall is made of flint with brick cross banding. The house has a gabled roof covered with Welsh slate and brick end stacks. It features two canted bays, with the left bay rebuilt in the 20th century, flanking a cambered brick arch over a 20th-century door, and similar arches over 19th-century three-light casements on the first floor.
